🤖 Orbit AI Controls Robots

Plus: Self-Training Muscle Robot, Moonwalk Breakthrough

Good Morning, Roboticists!

Intelligence is leaving the device, bodies are becoming endpoints, and action is decoupling from location.

Orbit AI Controls Robots

TL;DR: A Chinese lab led by GuoXing Aerospace and Shanghai Jiao Tong University demonstrated a humanoid robot controlled via space-based AI inference, combining Alibaba’s Qwen3 model, satellites, and OpenClaw into a closed loop. Commands were processed in orbit and executed on Earth, showing robots can run on satellite intelligence, though heat dissipation remains a major challenge.

Self-Training Muscle Robot Breakthrough

TL;DR: Researchers at the National University of Singapore developed self-training lab-grown muscles that strengthen by pulling against each other, eliminating the need for external stimulation. Integrated into a fish-inspired robot called OstraBot, the system achieved a record swimming speed of 467 mm per minute, demonstrating improved strength, control, and scalability for biohybrid robots.

KAIST Moonwalk Breakthrough

TL;DR: KAIST introduced its Humanoid v0.7, a 75 kg robot showcasing high-speed locomotion and fluid movements like a Moonwalk. Built with fully in-house actuators and custom gear systems, it uses reinforcement learning with human motion data for natural control. The project supports South Korea’s national humanoid strategy, aiming to bridge lab performance with real-world deployment.

Atlas Built for Factory Reality

TL;DR: Boston Dynamics revealed how its production Atlas humanoid shifted from experimental hardware to industrial deployment, prioritizing uptime, modularity, and serviceability over human likeness. Using high-performance actuators, swappable parts, passive cooling, and a compute-heavy head, Atlas is designed for 24/7 factory work, aligning with Hyundai’s needs and targeting scalable manufacturing at 30,000 units annually by 2028.

UBTech Partners Siemens for Scaling

TL;DR: UBTech signed a cooperation agreement with Siemens Digital Industries Software to support large-scale humanoid robot manufacturing. The partnership will integrate Siemens’ digital tools across design, simulation, and production to build a full lifecycle system. UBTech aims to reach annual output of 10,000 units by 2026, following growing demand and ongoing deliveries of its Walker S2 robots.

AutoStore Launches CubeVerse Platform

TL;DR: AutoStore announced CubeVerse, a new cloud platform integrating data, software, and AI to manage warehouse fulfillment systems end to end. Alongside AutoStore Intelligence, it enables real-time optimization, analytics, and coordination of robots and workflows. The company also introduced new picking, routing, and design tools, aiming to improve throughput and support continuous 24/7 operations.

SSi Mantra Expands Telesurgery

TL;DR: SS Innovations’ SSi Mantra surgical robot received approval for telesurgeries in Indonesia and the Philippines, expanding beyond its primary use in India. The system has already completed over 150 remote surgeries, including multi-city procedures and complex operations, using a portable console that enables surgeons to operate across locations, marking continued adoption of remote robotic surgery.

Amazon Acquires Rivr Robots

TL;DR: Amazon acquired Swiss robotics startup Rivr, known for four-legged delivery robots on wheels, to explore automating “doorstep delivery.” The company plans to test how these robots can assist drivers in the final delivery step, improving safety and efficiency. The move builds on Amazon’s long-running investment in robotics, extending automation beyond warehouses into last-mile logistics.
