🤖 Robots Gain 15-Minute Memory

Plus: Headline AW 2026, MassRobotics Startups Hit $2B

Good Morning, Roboticists!

The age of physical AI is not arriving all at once; it’s quietly assembling itself piece by piece.

Robots Gain 15-Minute Memory

TL;DR: Physical Intelligence introduced Multi-Scale Embodied Memory (MEM), a system combining short-term visual memory with long-term natural-language summaries to extend robot task focus to about 15 minutes. The architecture lets robots track context, adapt after failed actions, and complete multi-step chores such as cleaning kitchens, preparing ingredients, and unpacking groceries using its updated π0.6 model.

Humanoids Headline AW 2026

TL;DR: Smart Factory & Automation World 2026 (AW) opened in Seoul as the largest event in its 36-year history, gathering 2,300 booths and about 30,000 attendees around the theme “Autonomy: the driver of sustainability.” The expo highlighted AI-driven manufacturing and physical AI, with humanoid robots including Agibot X2, Unitree G1, Leju Kuavo Pro, and Boston Dynamics’ Atlas making Korean debuts alongside broader smart-factory automation systems.

MassRobotics Startups Hit $2B

TL;DR: MassRobotics announced that startups within its Boston-based robotics hub have collectively raised more than $2 billion in venture funding since 2017. Recent milestones include Code Metal reaching unicorn status after a $125 million raise, Algorized securing $13 million, Tutor Intelligence raising $34 million for AI robot workers, and Sereact closing a €25 million Series A while expanding its U.S. presence.

Noble Machines Deploys First Robots

TL;DR: Robotics startup Noble Machines emerged from stealth and revealed it deployed its first industrial humanoid robots. Moby, to a Fortune Global 500 customer within 18 months of founding. Founded in 2024 by engineers from Apple, SpaceX, NASA, and Caltech, the company says its AI–hardware platform enables robots to learn industrial tasks through language and demonstrations, acquiring new skills in hours rather than months.

OmniXtreme Expands Humanoid Skills

TL;DR: Researchers from the Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence and Unitree Robotics introduced OmniXtreme, a control framework that allows a single policy to execute many high-dynamic humanoid behaviors on the Unitree G1 robot. Using flow-based pre-training and actuation-aware reinforcement learning, the system enables skills like backflips, martial arts, and breakdancing with high real-world success rates across 157 trials.

Hyundai Debuts Firefighting Robot

TL;DR: Hyundai Motor Group unveiled an unmanned firefighting robot capable of operating in extreme disaster environments and donated it to South Korea’s National Fire Agency. Built on the HR-SHERPA unmanned platform, the robot withstands temperatures up to 800°C, uses infrared thermal imaging for navigation in smoke and debris, and can remotely locate and extinguish fires in areas too dangerous for human firefighters.

Amazon Cuts Robotics Jobs

TL;DR: Amazon has laid off more than 100 white-collar employees in its robotics unit, adding to the roughly 16,000 jobs it cut earlier this year. The affected teams worked on warehouse robots and internal transport systems. Amazon said robotics remains a strategic priority as it restructures operations, scales back its Blue Jay automation initiative, and shifts to a different robotics platform.

Neura Robotics Seeks $1.2B

TL;DR: German robotics startup Neura Robotics is reportedly negotiating a €1 billion ($1.2 billion) funding round, potentially including backing from stablecoin issuer Tether. Earlier reports valued the company at €8–10 billion, but new discussions suggest about €4 billion. Neura builds AI-powered robots including the humanoid 4NE1, quadruped systems, robotic arms, and logistics robots for industrial and consumer applications.
